What Is a Knife Gate Valve and Where Is It Used?

A knife gate valve is a valve type in which a sharp-edged stainless steel gate blade shears through the fluid to close. It operates without clogging in fluids containing solid particles, dense media, and viscous fluids, making it indispensable for wastewater, sludge, pulp, mining, and process industries.

Vanera knife gate valves are installed between PN10 flanges with a wafer-type body; they are offered in manual handwheel and pneumatic actuator versions.

Technical Specifications

Manufactured in the DN50-DN600 size range. Maximum working pressure depends on the size: 10 bar for DN50-DN150, 8 bar for DN200, 6 bar for DN250-DN300, 5 bar for DN350-DN400, and 3 bar for DN450-DN600.

The body is GG25 grey cast iron, GGG40 ductile cast iron, or AISI316 stainless steel; the gate blade is AISI304 or AISI316 stainless steel; the seal is EPDM, Viton, or metal. The stem is AISI420 stainless steel, and the packing is PTFE-based square braid.

The pneumatic version uses a double-acting piston actuator with an aluminum body; the air supply connection is 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" B.S.P depending on size.
